As many families know, state sports regulations make it difficult (sometimes impossible) for California homeschool students to find opportunities to compete in athletics. While travel teams are an option, the costs and hectic schedules are not always the best fit for families.
For these and other reasons, Evergreen Christian School decided to start up our own baseball team, the Evergreen Sierras! The goal is to compete with other homeschool teams in southern California (and other groups if the opportunity arises). '
Our first team started in spring 2020, with some great practices going on through March, but as you know, the COVID pandemic closures prevented further practices and games. The team resumed in spring 2021 and was able to play against a Bakersfield homeschool team, as well as many of our players and parent-coaches participating in the Homeschool Baseball World Series in Florida in April (as part of the USA Eagles team)! It was an amazing experience!
All homeschool boys in grades 7th-12th who'd like to try their hand at playing baseball can participate. All levels of experience (from none to MLB) are welcome! The main thing is a desire to work hard, get great exercise, build character through competition and teamwork, improve your skills, and have some awesome fellowship with teen athletes in a Christian-led setting.
Lastly, Evergreen Sierras players DO NOT NEED to be a part of the Evergreen Christian School PSP!
We generally have practices on Monday and Wednesday (usually from 2:00-4:00pm) starting again in February 2023 in Placentia. Games would be scheduled on selected Saturdays in the spring.
We also hold our coaches to the highest ideal of experience, skill, professionalism, and Biblical values. Our ultimate goal is to provide a competitive, faith-based environment for our young men.
